MEDICAL AND DENTAL CONSULTANTS OF NIGERIA APPEAL FOR SECURITY OF THIER MEMBERS

Zamfara state chapter of the Medical and Dental Consultants of Nigeria (MDCAN) has appealed to security agencies to provide full security cover to medical practitioners as they strive to save the lives of citizens.

The call was made in a communique issued to newsmen in Gusau on Monday, at the end of an emergency meeting held by the MDCAN over the recent gruesome murder of a member of the body, Dr. Enoch Okpara in Gusau

The communique which was jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the state’s branch of MDCAN, Dr. Usman Abdullahi and Dr. Tume Alfred respectively condemned the murder of Dr. Okpara, a Consultant Gynaecologist in its totality calling on the security agencies especially the police to fast track its investigation in order to bring the killers to justice.

The 4-point communique also noted that “the current efforts to improve security in Zamfara should be strengthened.”

The body further stated that unveiling the perpetrators of the dastardly act against their colleague would further reassure the doctors and other citizens of the safety of their lives and properties.

They described the death of the slain Okpara as “painful and devastating to the medical profession in the country as he was a dedicated medical doctor in the service of humanity.”

The Leadership reports that Dr. Okpara was until his death, a Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with the Federal Medical Center, Gusau.

He was found dead and burnt at his Mareri quarters residence in Gusau after he had been cut several times with machete on the 12th of this month.

Former Governor of Zamfara state and Senator representing Zamfara West, Hon. Dr. Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Shattiman Zamfara) has secured (13) trucks of Maize containing (3900) bags for distribution to his immediate community of Talatar Mafara.

The distribution is to be handled by the (11) man committee headed by Malam Hamza Abubakar.

A total of 68 communities consisting of 21,075 households will benefit with a total of 3900 bags of Maize.

According the chairman, the beneficiaries cut across religious devices as instructed by the donor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar.

According to the committee Chairman, former Governor Yari has considered the social condition of the people emanating from the removal of fuel subsidy by the current administration.

He assured that, the committee will be just and fair in the discharge of their duties.

He called on people to give them maximum support and cooperation in the discharged of their duty in order to achieve the desire success.

(31) PEOPLE DIES, (274) SUSTAIN INJURIES IN ADAMAWA ROAD CRASHES.

The Federal Road Safety Corp Adamawa state command has revealed that a total of (31) people died as a result of various road crashes within the state.

The statistics also showed that, a total of (274) people also sustained various degree of injuries as a result of the road crashes.

The Adamawa sector command also recorded (126) various road crashes involving (548) passengers within the period under review.

The statistics covered a period of January to July 2023.

The sector commandant of the state, Mr. Yelwa Dio when he interacted with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He attributed the road crashes to over-loading, over speeding and making telephone calls while driving.
