Members of Zamfara State House of Assembly have issued out three month ultimatum to retired teaching and non teaching staff occupying staff quarters of government schools across the state to vacate and allow room for working staff to have access to housing accommodation as part of the effort to boost the morale of those teachers in active service.
The three month ultimatum was contained as part of the resolutions reached on Tuesday by the members of the State House of Assembly during its plenary session.
It could be recalled that, the activities of the plenary were suspended for three weeks as a result of over sight functions conducted by the members of the state house of assembly to government ministries agencies and parastatals.
Raising the motion of public importance at the floor of the House member representing Maru North constituency Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma who doubled as Chairman House Committee on Basic Education reminded his colleques of the aged -long tradition by some teaching and non teaching staff who formed the habit of refusing to leave the government quarters even after retirement a behaviour he described as unpatriotic.
Kanoma noted further that, from the information available, some of them who were opportune to hold some high level of positions went to an extent of constructing houses elsewhere and rent it out while they continue to occupy government staff quarters. A situation he said will no longer exist under their watch.
In another development, the house amendmended its plenary calender of 2020/2021 due to the poor performance of the year 2020 occasioned by Covid-19 pandemic and annual hajj pilgrimage which had been canceled by the Saudi government.
The house unanimously agreed that, members go on recess effective from 23rd of July 2020 and resumes on the 24th of August 2020.
Earlier before proceeding on recess, the bill for establishment of Bureau for Public Service Reform 2020 pass through the first reading.
