Governor Bello Matawalle has directed security agencies to summon the Emir of Maradun and Sarkin Arewan Maradun to explain the circumstances which led to the killing of two Fulani herdsmen by the members of the outlawed Yansakai group
The Governor gave the directive during a State Security meeting held on Thursday at the State Government House Gusau.
I have just received information that two Fulani herdsmen were slaughtered to death in Maradun. I have ordered Emir of Maradun to bring the suspects culpable within three days to the police commissioner. It’s an instruction,” Mattawalle.
The Governor vows to hold any traditional rulers in the State responsible for any breach of peace in the state which he largely attributed to either activities of informants or members of the Yansakai groups and cautioned them to be more alive to their responsibility of support the government’s peace effort.
He also blamed communities for not doing enough to support the effort of the government in restoring peace noting that “if the government is convinced that the security personals deployed to Zamfara have the capacity to contain the ongoing banditry he would have not entered in to the peace dialogue with the bandits.
“People are not doing what they are supposed to do in the fight against banditry. The issue of informants is enough evidence to prove that”. Said Matawalle.
Zamfara State Police Commissioner who spoke during the meeting said, hence all stakeholders at the meeting have agreed that the peace accord should be sustained it has become a collective responsibility of all to support the government and security agencies in making sure that the overall aim of the process has been achieved.
“All of us will be held responsible for the success or otherwise of the peace process. We shall not blame the government or the security agents for any lapses.
