Suspected gunmen numbering over one hundred invaded Gidan Goga community in Zamfara State killings scores of people and living behind many others injured
A confided source told this medium that, the gunmen entered the community around 1:00pm on Thursday and started shooting sporadically.
It was confirmed that, because of the scary nature of the gunshots, many residents fled out of the community for safety adding that, the estimate of those killed in the attack is yet to be ascertained as more corpses are been recovered from the forest.
It was also confirmed that, more survivors who sustained various degree of injuries have been evacuated to Federal Medical Center Gusau for treatment while search for those who fled for fear of the bandits have been intensified.
It was also reliably gathered that, five military vans have been deployed to the area on the hearing of the news of the attack which led to the exchange of fire between the soldiers and bandits.
The source said the the military had since left but armed policemen have been deployed by the State Police Commissioner who are currently in charge of the security of the area.
Another source confided to this medium that, the bandits usually operate from a camp which is located between Maradun Gidan Goga up to -kaya-Janbako-Boko village which he said if the bandits camp is not destroyed the activities of the bandits can hardly be contained along Maradun area of the state.
But in a reaction, Zamfara State Police Command, said “the Command wishes to Confirm the killing of Four (4) people in an attack by suspected armed bandits at Gidan Goga village of Maradun LGA. The attack on the village occurred on 29th October 2020 at about 1400 hours” SP Shehu added
He noted that three people have been injured in the attack and are responding to the treatment.
He further said Joint Police/ Military units from Kaura Namoda area led by the DPO Kaura and another combined team of conventional policemen / 78 Mobile Police Squardron in Maradun led by DPO Maradun responded to the distress call and arrived the village to counter the bandits and to forestall further attack on the the neighbouring villages.
According Zamfara Police Spokes Person SP Shehu Muhammad he said the bandits fled before the arrival of the joint security operatives. Unfortunately, Four people were killed by the bandits while three others were injured. victims are now responding to treatment at Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.
He said the security of the area has been beefed up with improved patrol by the joint operation to build the confidence of the community.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Usman Nagogo condoles the family, the government and good people of Zamfara State for the unwarranted killing and promised that the Command will not relent in its effort to ensure the protection of life and property of the citizens” Shehu added.
